Hyderabad: A 12-year-old girl has been selected from Telangana to represent team India in 3rd Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championship organised by Jordon Taekwondo Federation (JTF), which will be held in Amman, Jordon, from July 20 to 24.Maheen Nawaz Khan hails from Yakutpura area in Old City.

Speaking to The Hans India, Maheen Nawaz Khan said that it was the first time in last 48 years that a participant from Telangana state had been chosen to represent India at World Taekwondo championship. She said that it was an honour to represent India in the international arena.

She also said that she was selected in India from the list of 150 girl participants who came from across the country to participate in the selections held in Jammu and Kashmir. Maheen said that it had been her dream since she was 7 to make it big in Taekwondo event.

When she was living in Oman, she won her first gold medal at the age of 8 years in Oman championship. She said that she secured a total of 28 medals in which 22 were gold and most of them were won in international competitions.

Maheen shifted to Hyderabad recently. She is going to represent India in the Asia championship under the guidance of her coach Rajender Singh.
