Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants that the iconic Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan should be visible to all road-users from about a kilometre.
It is learnt that KCR had asked the officials to work out an action plan. Accordingly, officials are contemplating taking major works which could even include demolition of the present compound wall of the GHMC headquarters and BRKR Bhavan for the purpose of road widening and clearing the obstacles so that road-users would be able to see the building from a distance.
Sources told Hans India that the roads from Liberty and Adarsh Nagar towards Secretariat will be widened and there would be no signals. Similarly, after the inauguration of Martyrs’ memorial by the CM on June 1, some structural changes will be taken up in the areas outside the new Secretariat building. KCR told officials that there should be no traffic jams on the Tank Bund road, Liberty to Adarsh Nagar and between the Telephone Bhavan and the new Secretariat. The south gate of the Secretariat will also be widened.
Officials noticed that the stretch between the Liberty crossroads to LIC office via GHMC head office and BRKR Bhavan was the main bottleneck for traffic. They said that the commuters may have to proceed from GHMC and BRKR bhavan road to go to Lakdikapul instead of Dr Ambedkar Statue road.
This, they claim will help reduce traffic jams at the signal under Telugu Thalli flyover. Currently, vehicle traffic under the flyover signal and at Ambedkar statue is heavy. During the peak hours, it takes at least 15 minutes to cross these two signals causing inconvenience to the road-users. The narrow road on the east side entrance of the GHMC head office will also be widened. The possibility of making use of Telugu Thalli flyover to reduce traffic congestion is also being studied. As of now, the traffic on this flyover is not much, they feel.
