As most of other divisions in the GHMC limits, the Kishan Bagh (Ward-56) too did not perform well in polling percentage last time. Only 18,906 votes were polled out of total 44,421 registered voters. Despite poor turnout, the contest went in the favour of AIMIM whose candidate registered a win by securing 12,649 votes during the 2016 elections.

Voters are dismayed by the sorry state of affairs in the division as well as the way the elections are being held every time despite the key issues remaining unresolved or even unheard of. This is reflecting in the polling percentage each time elections are held. A sense of indifference pervades many communities in the ward.

"There is no proper garbage collection here nor is the water being supplied regularly. Every complaint makes us wait for several days despite repeated reminders. More so, the mosquito menace also gives us sleepless nights as Musi River is passing through the area," deplored Mannan, a resident of Mahmoodnagar, Kishanbagh.

"There are several civic issues in the areas but garbage collection tops grievances list as collection teams seldom pay heed to our complaints. The issue takes a stinking turn during the rainy and winter season as heaps of trash are not at all carted away on time," said Fiyyaz, another resident.

The ward is reserved for BC (General) category. In last polls, there were six candidates of whom AIMIM candidate Mohammed Saleem emerged winner, polling 12,649 votes, against the TRS candidate Md Shakeel Ahmed who got a total of 4,361 votes in his favour. The other four contestants did not even reach the mark of 700.

However, this time there are total five candidates in the foray that includes Mohammed Ahmed from TDP, Mohammed Shakeel Ahmed from TRS, B Naveen Kumar from BJP, Khaja Mubasheeruddin from AIMIM and Mumtaz Sultana from Congress and all of them are undergraduates.

Surprisingly, for the first time the BJP has fielded its candidate as B Naveen Kumar is its face from the ward that is predominantly considered a bastion of AIMIM.
