Haemophilia-A cure facility at Niloufer
The doctors of Niloufer Hospital informed that the children suffering from Haemophilia-A (caused by a deficiency in factor VIII) can avail of the provision including minor surgeries and medical treatment.
Nampally: The doctors of Niloufer Hospital informed that the children suffering from Haemophilia-A (caused by a deficiency in factor VIII) can avail of the provision including minor surgeries and medical treatment.
They called upon the Muslims whose children are suffering from the ailment not to worry about circumcision, as the government-supported facility was extending even this kind of services, while keeping under check loss of blood during the procedure.
Dr Ravi Kumar, HOD, said that since maximum advancements were made in the research related to the ailment which is considered 'royal disease' in London, those who are suffering can heave a sigh of relief. Earlier, the life expectancy was 25 years and the scientific advancements have proven that even those with Haemophilia can live a normal life with a life expectancy of 50 to 60 years.
He said that with the Telangana government support the hospital was able to come up with separate ward where treatment for this ailment was made available. "The medicine and treatment including minor surgeries are being performed at the facility for patients with factor VIII deficiency," he said.
He also tried allay apprehensions about the genetic disease and affirmed that those who are suffering can also get relief throughout their lives from this disease, as no other disease was undergoing similar research at the international level.
He also informed that the south India has more incidence of this ailment and there was increased awareness. Besides Haemophilia society is the only one which funds for control of the disease and no other entity funds this cause. "By 2020 we shall be going to have excellent treatment for this ailment," he hoped.
On the eve of World Haemophilia Day on Wednesday, the doctors at Niloufer hospital organised different programmes including a 'walk' as part of generating. Besides HOD, Dr Ravi Kumar, Superintendent, Dr Murali Krishna, RMO, Dr Anuradha Reddy and Dr Preethi, who has done research on this, took part in these programmes. Being a genetic disease, the doctors asked the general public to avoid marrying within close relations.
While clarifying the misconceptions about the ailment Dr Preethi explained that due to deficiency of a factor which does not stop blooding flow from a opening of skin caused due to an injury amongst male children is generally considered as Haemophilia.
Parents only know about it after these children get minor injuries. Since the ward at Niloufer hospital offers treatment they can approach the doctors and the parents who wish to perform circumcision can consult them, in case their kids are suffering from the ailment. "The State government is supporting this and patients can avail the facility. They can live a normal life through proper treatment," she noted.
