GHMC stops responding to complaints raised on X
Netizens frustrated over the lack of responsiveness to their complaints
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, once proactive on social media, is now unresponsive to complaints on the ‘X’ platform. After the user posted grievances, the officials used to give a swift response, but now there has been no response from them. Moreover, Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi also stopped responding to public complaints on social media applications. However, the public grievances remain unattended.
The netizens who were raising their grievances online were seen frustrated over the lack of responsiveness to their complaints, and they were unable to connect with the concerned department and officer for their complaint. Earlier, when raising complaints on social media, they used to directly connect with officers instead of complaining to corporations or other public representatives and getting their work done.
Daily, several public grievances were raised by the citizens on social media, especially on X. "Netizens, while tagging the Mayor, GHMC, Ministers and public representatives, raise the issue, and most of the time these higher authorities also respond and direct their officers to solve it as soon as possible, but now none are seen as proactive, and the issue remains unattended," says Mohammed Ahmed, a social activist.
Ahmed said that despite having a mechanism to resolve issues on digital platforms like the GHMC app, an online grievance redressal system, the X app, and a helpline, the civic body has failed to meet people’s expectations in the last month. It has been observed that it is far from reality, and only a few issues are being addressed by the officials with continuous tagging, while the rest remain unattended and there is no response from higher ups, including Ministers, Mayor and GHMC commissioners,” he added.
K Venkatesh, a resident of Dhoodh Bowli, said, “Several complaints were pending with GHMC on social media, and the concerned officers are not responding as earlier to the complaint raised by the netizens. However, when visited by the division or zonal office, there were no senior officers present,” he added.
Ahmed pointed out that, in some cases, officials are misleading the netizens who raised the issues online. Following the continued complaint on X, the concerned officers replied that the issue was solved. However, the situation on the ground was far from reality.
The GHMC officers are fooling the citizens and showing their lackadaisical attitude. Daily, hundreds of such issues were raised, and GHMC officers’ claims that they were solved. But with this, it clearly shows that the officers are not performing their duties and misleading their higher-ups. “I demand stern action against the concerned fraudulent staff who are lazy,” added Ahmed.
