Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore has said that sweeping trash at nights and the lifting of garbage in the evenings would be introduced and that more vehicles would be added to each circle for the lifting of garbage. Dana Kishore held a meeting with medical and entomology officials to review sanitation and cleanliness on Wednesday.
Additional Commissioner Shruthi Ozha, chief entomologist Venkatesh, Khadri, chief medical officer, and other officials attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner instructed the officials that there should not be any compromise with regard to the maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation in the city. He ordered officials to ensure that sweeping programs are done on continuous basis in all circles at major junctions, highways and main roads.
He also instructed the officials concerned to identify open garbage points and to ensure that they are permanently removed. At present, GHMC has been lifting garbage in the city using 120 tippers and 43 tractors. The commissioner ordered transport officials to use these vehicles to lift the garbage in the evenings as well. Especially, the waste left over in the evenings at weekly vegetable markets held in several colonies and main junctions can be lifted in the evenings, he said.
Cleanliness rankings to circles
The GHMC commissioner said that ranking would be given to each circle based on their performance in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation. Apart from sanitation, removal of construction debris, waste from nalas, removal of critical garbage points and others would be taken as criteria for ranking each circle, he said. To raise awareness on the importance of waste segregation, handing over of garbage to Swachh autos and to maintain clean surroundings, GHMC has appointed 2,500 CRPs, and their services could be effectively used by all the circles, he said.
He ordered the officials to respond to all the negative news published in the daily newspapers. He stressed the maintenance of cleanliness around the prestigious Metro corridor. He instructed the officials to travel in Metro trains to identify garbage points and construction debris on either side of Metro corridor and take necessary measures to remove them. He also instructed the medical officers to take necessary measures to reduce absenteeism among sanitation workers and SFAs.
