GHMC staff stalls cellar works at function hall
No space for parking? Don’t worry, dig up a cellar underground. This was the idea of owner of a function hall in New Malakpet. But before he could construct parking space below the existing building structure, neighbours dashed a complaint to the authorities who swung into action and stopped the works.
Chaderghat: No space for parking? Don't worry, dig up a cellar underground. This was the idea of owner of a function hall in New Malakpet. But before he could construct parking space below the existing building structure, neighbours dashed a complaint to the authorities who swung into action and stopped the works.
Due to lack of space for parking, the owner of Chandni Function Hall started constructing the cellar and dug up about 10 ft below the old structure. The neighbours grew wary and lodged a compliant against the illegal construction to the GHMC authorities. The town planning department officials reached the spot and stopped the construction on Tuesday. They found that no permission was obtained by the building owner.
Mohammed Aijaz Ahmed, a resident close to the function hall, submitted a complaint on October 15 to the GHMC authorities regarding an illegal construction of cellar in old structure building. Speaking to media persons, Aijaz said that the owner started construction on his property after demolishing the existing walls on the ground floor and marked the pillar position and dug up the pits for laying pillars.
He constructed boundary wall and was trying to raise pillars without any permission. "As per the municipal rules, the construction is illegal and unauthorised and the works were taken up without obtaining any permission from the authorities concerned," he said. Residents felt that the activity may affect the structural integrity of the buildings which are adjacent to it.
Apart from this, Aijaz Ahmed also said as his property was adjacent to the function hall, the regular activity inside the kitchen disturbed him, as it gets hot each time when there is a function. "We are unable to reside in the rooms and our house gets heated due to his kitchen," he added.
Raising the objection, he said that the function hall was constructed in residential area and he wondered as to how the license was issued to the function hall by civic authorities without taking into confidence the neighbours and getting their no-objection.
Whenever there is a function, it sparks parking issues in the area, leaving neighbors disturbed. "The vehicles are parked in the front of the gate and we have to make way to pass. After the function, all the wastage is thrown outside and it will remain till the garbage collector clears, due to which, bad smell is also thick in the air," said, another resident, who took up the issue.
According to residents in the area, another major problem is playing bands. Blaring music will be played late into night during functions and we residents get frustrated by the noise pollution. "We have to call the police to control the pollution as many kids wake up in fear due to loud noise from the function. Elderly people living in the area are also affected," he added.
