Attapur: As part of 'Saaf Hyderabad–Shandaar Hyderabad', the GHMC officials, along with NGOs, are generating awareness among the general public as well as sweepers and Sanitary Field Assistants (SFAs). It might be noted here that the GHMC has introduced penalties not only on households, but also on field workers for failing to adhere to the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Act, 2016.

However, complaints on garbage burning in residential localities have been pouring in from different parts of the city where GHMC sweepers are allegedly burning garbage openly. Locals accuse workers of setting fire to papers, dried up leaves and other desiccated waste, leaving behind billowing smoke, much to their discomfort.

A local resident of Attapur, Pleasant Park, shared, "We stay two buildings away and there was a lot of smoke and dust due to the garbage burning. I thought burning garbage was not allowed but here the sweepers itself are burning them."

Another local from Parvathi Nagar, Ayyappa Society Road shares, "The sweepers are seen burning garbage every alternate day as if they don't bother about the pollution that has been caused and the consequences. GHMC should take strict action against it."
