GHMC, HMWSSB working to stop sewage overflow
Hans News Service Shalibanda: The works on replacement of sewage water drain pipeline near one of the busiest lanes at Charminar have been finally taken up. The GHMC and the HMWSSB officials, who were passing the buck to each other, have now resolved to take up the exercise in a coordinated effort. The coordinated effort was initiated after The Hans India took up the issue, highlighting the ordeal the residents were going through. As per the report ‘MLA's nod must for taking up civic works: GHMC staff,’ published on October 26, the officials of GHMC engineering wing informed the complainants that works would be done only after the area MLA gave permission for the works. Following which, the locals took the matter and with GHMC and HMWSSB officials, hoping that the issue would be completely resolved. The issue of overflowing drain, which has been posing health hazard to residents of Qazipura in Shalibanda division, remained untouched for over a month, even after several representations. The locals are being put to severe hardships, as the entire stretch is filled with sewage water. As the drain pipeline remained blocked, impacting the drinking water pipeline, it contributed to the overflow of water in the entire area. “On Wednesday, the works were started with the officials of both departments coming to terms. At first, the problem of overflow was rectified by the HMWSSB officials and the repairs works were taken up next day. After the completion of HMWSSB department’s works, the GHMC started the works of replacing SW drain pipeline, with the sanctioned amount of around Rs 8 lakh and they assured to complete the works within a week”, said Mohammed Ahmed, TDP leader. He said that the works were in progress and the amount was sanctioned for works by the authorities. “I hope in the coming days there would be no more overflow problem, which has been causing trouble to the residents for long,” he added.
