Kukatpally: With garbage overflowing at dump yards posing a grave threat to the health of animals consuming plastic, chemicals, spoiled food, sharp materials etc, green activists demand a speedy action by the civic body authorities to maintain the environs clean and green.
Animals, including cows and dogs, have begun to sneak into the garbage dump yard at Kukatpally from the nearby areas to eat vegetables and other wastes dumped there.
Stating that urgent efforts are need to keep the area fenced to check the entry of animals into the dump yard, Dr Pradeep, a veteran and an ecologist, said that the residents of Kukatpally are dumping waste on roadside, as the civic officials fail to clear dump yards and garbage bins, open areas are fast turning into dump yards.
"Garbage and other food wastes that contain residues of chemicals, dyes and preservatives, will enter the food chain of the herbivorous that visit the garbage yard. These residues will in turn enter the food chain of big cats, when they prey upon animals which feed on the garbage wastes. This will ultimately affect the health of the big cats," he said.
"Vegetable wastes can be composted in houses. The problem of garbage all over the city, even in remote villages is alarming, we must be cautious and safeguard the living beings" he added.
