Miyapur: The daily wage labourers or just about anyone who find it hard to buy a meal in Miyapur, Balanagar and Kukatpally areas no longer have to go hungry. A city-based NGO, Hope of Hunger, started by Alekhya in June 2019, has come as a saviour.
Till date, 45 drives have been conducted. Alekhya says, "The thought of people going hungry was unbearable and I came up with the idea." Alekhya and her team members visit hotels and restaurants in the West Zone and collect the leftover food which would otherwise end up in dustbins. The team first visited all the hotels and convinced them to part with the food.
It was a win-win situation as the hoteliers no longer had to think about logistics and of disposal of leftover food. It saved time and money. 10 volunteers distribute food packets to more than 100 underprivileged people in the west zone.
"As of now we only distribute the food packets in Miyapur and nearby areas, includes Balanagar and Kukatpally. Small hotels are helping us and slowly I am planning to expand this drive across the city," added Alekhya.
