Baghlingampally: Secretary of TS Social Welfare Gurukula Educational Institutions Dr RS Praveen Kumar opined that Dalit community can progress only through education. He was speaking at a programme celebrating 25th year of MRPS, organised by MRPS (TS) here at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Praveen Kumar said that most dalit families lack properties or land, hence their progress was only possible through good education. "Only knowledge can fill lights in their lives," he added. He said that the elimination of caste from the society was possible only when fear was eliminated. He advised Dalits to live with self-respect. "The poverty should not come in the way of respectful living," he added. Dalits should tolerate hunger but not insults, he said.
Telananga health minister Eatela Rajender, who attended the program as a chief guest, said that 'Madiga Dandora' movement may not have fulfilled its objective of SC categorization but helped the community's self-respect. Education helped the community to raise social awareness among them and appealed MRPS leaders to suggest ideas to bring economic development of the community. He said that TRS government is planning to provide free medical services to the poor.
The meeting, organized by MRPS (TS) president Vangapally Srinivas, was attended by national president Medi Papaiah Madiga, Dandu Surender Madiga, J Kanakaraju Madiga, Mallesh Madiga, state president of student association Kollur Venkat Madiga, in-charge Kongari Shankar Madiga, Madiga leaders Tandra Suresh and a large number of MRPS activists.
