Democratic Youth Federation of India opposes move to impose Hindi
The State secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), A Vijay Kumar, warned the central government not to impose Hindi on non-Hindi states.
Tank Bund: The State secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), A Vijay Kumar, warned the central government not to impose Hindi on non-Hindi states. Amit Shah, the union home minister, recently made a comment on Hindi Divas on making Hindi compulsory based on the idea of 'one nation, one language.' DYFI staged protest before Dr Ambedkar statue here, protesting against the statement on Thursday.
The activists said that the idea of imposing a language on the rest of nation would lead to civil war in a nation known for 'Unity in Diversity.' He termed Amit Shah's comments that Hindi language alone can unify the nation as 'anti-constitutional.' The nation declared itself as 'Indian Union' after independence as it is the blend of various languages, cultures and religions, they pointed out. Imposing a language which is spoken in four states on the remaining 25 states would be an atrocious act, they flayed.
The Schedule 8 of the Constitution has recognised 22 languages as official languages and any attempt to impose a language on the rest of the nation would be anti-constitutional. The proposed act would also endanger rights given to the states on languages. Vijay Kumar alleged that imposition of Hindi on the rest of the nation was a conspiracy by the RSS to form uniform culture.
DYFI state president M Viplav Kumar, vice president B Sambashiva, DYFI leaders Mahender, Javed, Ramesh, Shashank, Sandeep, Vijay, Sunil and others participated in the protest.
