CPI urges govt to save Devunikunta lands
State secretary of CPI Chada Venkat Reddy demanded the State government to save the Devunikunta government lands in Vijayanagar Colony from encroachments.
Himayatnagar: State secretary of CPI Chada Venkat Reddy demanded the State government to save the Devunikunta government lands in Vijayanagar Colony from encroachments. He was speaking to the media during the protest demonstrations held by CPI activists and supported by leaders of various opposition parties, before the GHMC main office on Sunday.
Leaders of various parties gathered at the Liberty crossroads and went to the GHMC main office in a rally and staged protest before the GHMC office. Protestors raised slogans demanding saving the government lands and taking stringent action against the encroachers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chada Venkat Reddy expressed his concerns over the state of government of lands in the city. He alleged that many government lands were being encroached, but the State government has turned a blind eye and took no action against encroachers. He demanded the state government to take necessary measures to stop encroachments of Devunikunta lands.
He also demanded immediate demolition of illegal structures on the government lands. The negligence of the State government to act against encroachers has emboldened them even further, he alleged.
Former MP and CPI national committee member Aziz Pasha said that there was no protection to government lands despite the change of governments. It was only because of communists, many people were able to enjoy benefits of government lands, he said.
City secretary of CPI Narsimha said that the party had fought several times in the past to protect government lands. He appealed to the state government to intervene in the matter, demolish all the illegal structures on government lands and register criminal cases against the encroachers after identifying them. He warned that the CPI would intensify their agitation if the government fails to take any measures in protecting lands.
Among those who participated in the protest include CPI state committee member Chaya Devi, Congress leader Ashwad Ai Khan, TJS leaders Suresh, Apas, TDP leader Khairuddin, CPI city committee members Salim Khan, Mannan, Rakesh Singh, Chandramohan Goud, N Srikanth, council members Harinath Goud, Balakrishna, Shaik Mia and others.
