Patancheru: Local DSP Rajeswara Rao on Monday conducted a traffic awareness programme for the benefit of the students in Maheswaram Medical College located on the outskirts of Chitkul village.
Addressing the students, the DSP stated that the country infamously stood first in the world in road accident deaths. He expressed anguish that due to overtaking on roads, mishaps were taking place, causing injuries to innocent persons.
Rao said in eight out of 10 cases of accidents persons suffering injuries, sometimes fatal, were found to be not wearing protective head gear. He warned that persons resorting to drunken driving would have their licences cancelled. The police officer advised motorists to use helmet as a 'responsibility' and not to treat it as a burden. Traffic CI Venu and his staff were present during the programme.
