Chikkadpally: Building Construction Workers Association, affiliated to AITUC, staged protest here in front of labour office on Tuesday, as part of a nationwide strike called by AITUC. The workers raised slogans demanding the government to address their issues.

Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the association said that protests are being held, as part of nation-wide agitation to address issues of construction workers. He alleged that identity cards were not being given to labourers and criticised the labour department for not visiting building construction sites to register new workers to issue identity cards.

The cards given to the workers were not being renewed, too. He demanded that the officials of labour department prevent bogus insurance claims and provide insurance to genuine claimants.

He also demanded that the government hike the accident insurance from Rs 6 lakh to 10 lakh and to provide financial assistance to pregnant women and toward marriage expenses. AITUC state secretary VS Bose, O Yadaiah, G Mallesh, Anagappa, Paramesh, Narsimha, K Yadagiri and others participated in the protest.
