Chandrayangutta: As part of 'Saaf Hyderabad – Shaandaar Hyderabad' campaign, the Old City residents are urged to ensure regular cleaning up of their water storages including tanks to ward off vector-borne diseases.
During the Slum Level Federation (SLF) meeting organised by GHMC in collaboration with the NGO and Save Foundation here on Wednesday with the active cooperation of Chandrayangutta Corporator Mohammad Abdul Wahab, awareness was created among the locals on various civic issues.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (GHMC), Shirley Pushyaragam, called upon each of the residents, particularly women, to make the campaign a great success. She asked them to segregate dry and wet garbage for better disposal and hand them over to the vehicles arranged by the GHMC.
While expressing satisfaction over the number of women present at the programme, Deputy Project Officer, N Venugopal felt that women should be part of developmental activity and should not only strengthen themselves but also mobilize the entire society towards greater good.
Medical Officer Jyothi educated the women on the kind of grounds on which mosquitoes could grow within the houses and its surroundings. She explained to them as to how stagnant water, which remains for more than a week could become a breeding ground. She called upon everyone to check regularly their storage tanks in their premises and to clean up each week.
Save Foundation CEO, M Krishna encouraged the participants to ensure their groundwater remains recharged by constructing rainwater harvesting pits in their houses. Amongst others who participated included Laxman, municipal ward members Ameer, Subhan, HMWS & SB official, Yadaiah and UPHC doctors, local leaders and representatives of women associations.
