Secunderabad: BJP leaders led by the state president Dr K Lakshman staged protest by wearing black badges, protesting violence at Amit Shaw meeting in West Bengal, here at Mahatma Gandhi statue on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Lakshman condemned the violence by Trinamul Congress Party in West Bengal and wondered if there was democracy in the state. He said that BJP stood in the forefront of preserving democracy. He accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee of encouraging goondaism and intimidating BJP cadre.

He alleged that she was trying to come to power using violence against other party cadre. Lakshman alleged that Mamatha has been trying to stop Durga celebrations in the state to appease Bangladesh Muslims. The state government had been trying to obstruct Amit Shah whenever he went to the state for election campaigning, he alleged. He also condemned the way the PM Narendra Modi was being abused by Banerjee.
