Leaders of parents associations recalled the historic judgement by Supreme Court on July 1 and the High Court judgement on October 29, which directed engineering colleges to withdraw hike in tuition fees and the rulings benefited parents.
The speakers averred that the parents' associations played a key role in raising the issue of fee hike. Each parent was benefited by up to Rs 65,000 per year as colleges such as MGIT, Vasavi, Srinidi colleges charged additional fees during 2016-19, they said.
The meeting resolved on the need for parents associations to focus now on enhancing the quality of education provided by the colleges. They demanded that the college managements recruit qualified faculty and pay them adequate salaries and provide better library, laboratory and other facilities necessary for improving education standards.
They also suggested to college managements to ensure that more students get placed in campus placements. TPA secretary Pagadala Lakshmaiah and a large number of parents and students attended the programme.
