BC students demand full fee reimbursement

Secunderabad: BC students association demanded that the State government reimburse full fees to BC students who were pursuing MBA, MCA, PG, undergraduate and Inter education. This was stated in the meeting of various BC student associations here at BC Bhavan on Tuesday. The meeting was presided by BC student association president Jillapalli Anji.

Speaking to media, R Krishnaiah, who was invited as chief guest of the meeting, warned the State government of intensifying state-wide agitation if the pending fee reimbursement dues of Rs 1,640 crore were not released within eight days. He demanded that the government reimburse full fee to all BC students similar to that given to SC, ST and minority students.

Currently, BC students who are in the top 10,000 ranks get full fee reimbursement while rest of the students get only Rs 35,000. Krishnaiah said that most BC students have been discontinuing their studies as they could not afford to pay balance tuition fee. While the government announced release of Rs 1,450 crore for previous year reimbursement dues, the bills were not passed in treasury, he said.

Krishnaiah said that BC students have been facing hardships as college managements were harassing students to pay fees. Due to delay in release of fees reimbursement funds to colleges, most of engineering colleges in the state are on the verge of closure, he lamented. Krishnaiah also demanded that the government fill 50,000 vacant teacher and other posts.
