Himayathnagar: The Bala Hakkula Sangham on Wednesday lodged a complaint with city police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on the death of a child of balloon seller in Lingampally. The child was shifted on July 12 to Sishu Vihar in view of their inability to offer protection.

The complaint stated that on July 14 when the child was bleeding from nose a representative of an NGO took the child to Niloufer Hospital, but the doctors there had declared it brought dead and sent the body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

While demanding an inquiry into the death, the complaint accused the Women and Child Welfare department of making a false claim that it was a natural death, although the injury on the forehead was visible. It accused the department of washing off their hands after getting a case of suspicious death registered by S R Nagar police.

The complaint questioned why the child was sent to the hospital in an auto when Shishu Vihar had its own ambulance, while maintaining that the post-mortem had clearly stated that the death was caused by injury.

The sangham wanted the department's Joint Director Lakshmi taken into custody for questioning in connection with the death. It demanded an inquiry into the alleged deaths of nine children from January to September 1 this year.
