90 per cent beggars are fake

The next time you find a beggar at the signal, most probably carrying a baby, think twice before giving an alm, for all you know they earn more than you know.

According to G Ramaiah, Chairman, Federation of NGOs for Beggar Free Society, "90 per cent of the beggars in the city are fake.

You would hardly find a beggar with disability. A survey we conducted three years ago itself showed that a majority are fake. The annual income of beggars put together in the city is close to Rs 24 crore per annum."
