40 public borewells go bone dry in SCB

Residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) are facing acute water shortage from the past few months.
Secunderabad: Residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) are facing acute water shortage from the past few months. As around 40 public borewells are dry in the eight wards due to groundwater depletion. Especially in Marredpally, Bapuji Nagar, Kanakpura, Sanjeeva Nagar, Balamrai Basti, Mud Fort, Sitaram Nagar Colony, Gandhi Nagar, and Tirumalagiri Basti is the most affected areas.
At the last board meeting it was decided to dig 20 borewells but the work has not started. Cantonment has approximately 160 public borewells in the eight wards. All the public borewells are constructed by using MLA and MP funds in the Cantonment. J Maheswar Reddy, SCB member ward 1, said that after the election result, there would be a board meeting, we would decide when to start the construction.
B Anitha, ward III member, said,"as groundwater depletion is natural and it is not in our hands.But to give people relief from the shortage of water, we are planning to lay new borewells in Cantonment area." She further said we would discuss this matter in the upcoming board meeting and once fund get sanctioned, we would start constructing the borewells.
