Bengaluru: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Karnataka, said that the recent violence at the Wistron's iPhone manufacturing plant in Narasapura of Kolar district has has sent disturbing signals that need to be addressed immediately. "The economy is on the road to recovery, and the markets have been witnessing increasing demand in several sectors.
Such incidents would have an adverse impact on the momentum currently being seen in the revival of the market. The resultant impact on the image of the country and the State would also be very detrimental. This comes especially at a time when the focus is on Atmanirbharta and the need to boost our status as an attractive destination for global investments in manufacturing," the statement read.
Lauding the State government's investor friendly policies and approach, the CII said, "It is imperative that such labour issues are recognised early and addressed in a proactive and humane way. Our workers are a very important resource and their needs are to be constantly monitored and addressed. Industry bodies should strive to work together with stakeholders on reconciliation and early settlement of labour issues in the interest of all parties before the situation escalates. It is certainly not desirable at all that such situations are allowed to spiral out of control and result in loss of reputation of the State."
Chairman CII Karnataka, Sandeep Singh stressed the need for constant and open dialogue with all stakeholders so that critical needs of workers and management are balanced in a fair and judicious manner.
"A vigilant watch on all compliances is obligatory. Our consistent endeavour should be to promote a harmonious work culture and make efforts to propel the state as a preeminent destination for investment and industrial growth," he said.
