New Delhi: In the protest organized by the Karnataka government atJantar Mantar Maidan in Delhi on Wednesday against the central government's grant allocation discrimination. Members of the Rajya Sabha, MLAs, members of the upper house, leaders of the frontline units of the Congress participated.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that today's protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the injustice done by the central government in distribution of taxes to the state is a movement to protect the interests of Karnataka and Kannadigas.

Speaking to the media, CM Siddaramaiah said, Rs 1,87,000 crores of grant due to the state has not been given in the last five to six years. A protest is being made against this injustice. Jantar Mantar is a historical place which has witnessed many movements. In such a space, all ministers and MLAs including DCM DK Shivakumar have participated in this protest. It is not a political movement. He said that the state BJP leaders have also been requested to make this protest against the central government non-partisan.

Out of Rs 100, the state gets only Rs 12 to Rs 13

This is a historic protest. In the 14th Finance Commission, the tax share for the state came to 4.71%. It came down to 3.64 % in 15th Finance Commission. Due to this, the tax coming to the state has been reduced by 40 to 45 percent. Overall, if the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission had been followed in the 15th Finance Commission, the state would have received Rs 62,098 crore. A total tax amount of Rs 4,30,000 crores is given to the center by the state. That means the state is getting only Rs 12 to Rs 13 out of Rs 100 tax. This is an injustice to the state of Karnataka. 25 MPs have been elected from Karnataka and none of them have spoken before the Centre. Also, the former Chief Ministers of the state, Yeddyurappa or Basavaraja Bommai, have not requested to correct this injustice. The chief minister explained that the protest is being waged in New Delhi today for all these reasons.

The Center is giving Rs 2,80,000 crore to the state of Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan are also being offered. None of these states have taken action on population control. Grant allocation is determined by several criteria including population, per capita income, development of communities. He said that the 2011 census is being considered in the 15th Finance Commission.
