Indian Cancer Society unveils ‘Rise Against Cancer’ app, empowering people in the fight against cancer
The Indian Cancer Society (ICS), India's largest anti-cancer NGO, has announced the launch of its ground-breaking 'Rise Against Cancer' mobile app.
Bengaluru: The Indian Cancer Society (ICS), India's largest anti-cancer NGO, has announced the launch of its ground-breaking 'Rise Against Cancer' mobile app. Supported by Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) and powered by Roche, the Made in India app aims to bridge gaps, foster awareness, and unite communities for a cancer-free future. The application will be dedicated to empowering individuals and communities in their journey to overcome cancer.
ICS has worked for over seven decades to prevent cancer, provide financial assistance for treatment, and manage life post-treatment. Rise Against Cancer, the latest initiative by ICS, is aimed at addressing concerns and queries of cancer patients, caretakers, and information seekers. The mobile application will offer a wide range of features like easy access to up-to-date information, community support from peers, and local and virtual events amongst others. To align with the World Cancer Day 2024 theme "Close the Care Gap," ICS has launched this multilingual tool to empower individuals and communities in their fight against cancer.
The National Managing Trustee of the Indian Cancer Society, Usha Thorat said, "Cancer remains a pressing global health challenge, impacting the lives of millions in India and around the world. The proactive initiative by the ICS by launching ‘Rise Against Cancer’ app leverages the potential of mobile technology to offer comprehensive information and guidance to those affected by cancer and their families.”
Appreciating this initiative, Director Head and Neck Oncology, Robotic Surgery, HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, Dr Vishal Rao said, “Indian Cancer Society’s app beautifully connects the world from prevention to palliation. I appreciate their profound effort in curating authentic information. In this age of misinformation, sharing genuine knowledge is crucial. Grateful for their dedication in enabling better cancer care outcomes.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of ICS Delhi Branch, Jyotsna Govil remarked, "In response to specific insights gleaned from community needs and the current demand, ICS has meticulously crafted this mobile application. The 'Rise Against Cancer' app is envisioned to empower individuals affected by cancer, allowing them to take charge of their health. Featuring diverse sections such as an information hub, resource library, events, community and support groups, along with a dedicated news and updates section."
To mark this historic occasion – Chairman of ICS Karnataka, Kishore Rao said, “Very often lack of information, or even wrong information, on a subject like Cancer can cause avoidable distress. At a time when a shocking diagnosis has just been received it is imperative that a patient or her caregivers get correct and complete information at one place. This is also one of the reasons for ICS’ initiative in putting this 'Rise Against Cancer' app together. We firmly believe that our collective positive actions will inspire people to stay ’Two Steps Ahead of Cancer’ fostering a proactive approach to early detection and intervention.”
In its dedicated mission to combat cancer, the Indian Cancer Society’s Karnataka chapter has significantly expanded its reach across the state. Today with its base in Bengaluru, ICS Karnataka has regional offices in Mangaluru, Kalaburagi and Dharwad reaching out to rural and urban people who have little access to resources or information.
