Amaravati: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate as many as 22 key health projects completed at a cost of Rs 249.50 crore in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said. The projects, taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), include 10 Emergency Care Centres built at a cost of Rs 234.50 crore and 12 Integrated Public Health Laboratories established with an investment of Rs 15 crore. The 10 Emergency Care Centres will add 500 emergency care beds to the State’s healthcare system. They have been established at government medical colleges in Kadapa, Nellore, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Ongole, Rajamahendravaram, Kurnool and Vijayawada, besides district hospitals in Anakapalle and Hindupur. The centres will provide emergency treatment for critical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, chronic respiratory diseases, severe breathing difficulties, poisoning and serious blood infections. Emergency services for mothers and children and dialysis-related care will also be available.
The State has been sanctioned 24 Emergency Care Centres with an overall allocation of Rs 600.35 crore. Once all are completed, they will provide 1,275 additional beds. The remaining 14 centres are targeted for completion by April 30, 2027. The 12 Integrated Public Health Laboratories will strengthen disease surveillance, early detection and diagnostic services. Each laboratory has been established at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. The facilities will support disease diagnosis, sample collection, testing and public health interventions.
The laboratories are located at Sithampeta, Guntakal, Palamaneru, Aganampudi, Nandigama, Chirala, Araku, Narasaraopet, Banaganapalle, Anaparthi, Tuni and Gudur. Minister Satya Kumar said 14 other public health laboratories had already been completed and were functioning. He said expenditure under PM-ABHIM had increased substantially, from Rs 28.85 crore during 2019–24 to Rs 229.29 crore since June 2024, reflecting an eight-fold increase.
The projects would strengthen emergency preparedness and bring quality public healthcare closer to people, he added.
