Master Movie Review and Rating: Kollywood Superstar Vijay joined hands with ace Director Lokesh Kanagaraj of 'Khaidi' fame and is all set to come up with an action entertainer, 'Master'.Vijay Sethupathi is playing the villain role in the movie. The movie lovers are super excited to see both star heroes on the silver screens in a single frame. Amid high expectations, the movie has now finally hit the theatres today on January 13th, 2021. Though the movie was supposed to get released in April last year, the makers have postponed it because of the lockdown. Let's check out the review of the film.
Story:
JD (Vijay) is working as a psychology professor in a college. The college management is against him as he is a drunkard but the students love him. JD says that student elections should happen at any cost but the college management is against it. The principal puts a condition that JD should resign if any fight happened during the elections. As expected, After the election results there will be chaos in the college and JD joins as a professor in a Juvenile Observation Home. He learns that Bhavani (Vijay Sethupathi) is an evil person who makes crimes by using child criminals in the juvenile homes as his pawns. Can JD be able to succeed in defeating Bhavani forms the crux of the story.
Performances:
There is no doubt that Vijay is the biggest asset for this movie. The way he breathes life into his character is just mesmerizing. His energetic performance is one of the highlights of the film. Also, Vijay Sethupathi's performance is just mind-blowing. His versatility as an actor is commendable and his performance in the film is top-notch. Malavika Mohanan portrayed her role with ease. Shanthanu Bhagyaraj is perfect for his role and delivered an honest performance. Dheena acted very naturally in the film. Arjun Das and Andrea Jeremiah will also impress the audience with their performances. Ramya Subramanian delivered a decent performance in the movie. Nassar's screen presence is also good.
Technical Aspects:
Lokesh Kanagaraj once again proved that he has a unique way of storytelling. The way he has narrated the storyline is really excellent. His narration is too good and his pace is not at all slow. The director has succeeded in presenting the story in an entertaining as well as interesting way. Production values by XB Film Creators are too good. Music by Anirudh Ravichander is beautiful. Not only the songs but also his BGM gave life to the film. We can say that his music elevated most of the scenes in the film. The visuals by cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan are nice. Editing by Philomin Raj could have been better.
Verdict:
The movie starts off well. Though the first half is full of some elevations and character establishments, the movie is decent. The interval bang is outstanding and changes the entire mood. But, just when the audience are eagerly waiting for the second half, the director has failed to engage the audience and his slow-paced narration makes it impossible for the audience to watch the film. Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi's remarkable performances, Anirudh's commendable music, interval bang, and Sathyan Sooryan's visuals made the film a memorable watch. But, the regular story, slow-paced narration, dragged run time, editing and the worst second half became the minus points of the film. The movie will be an enjoyable ride for Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi fans but the other audience might not connect well with the flick. Overall, only a few audience who do not have any expectations from the film might like the film.
