RED Review & Rating {2.75/5}

Hero Ram Pothineni who scored a blockbuster with 'iSmart Shankar' movie has now joined hands with Nenu Sailaja and Unnadi Okate Zindagi fame director Kishore Tirumala and is going to come up with an action thriller titled 'Red' featuring Nivetha Pethuraj, Malavika Sharma, and Amrita Aiyer as the female leads. The movie is the official Telugu remake of 2019 released super hit Tamil film 'Thadam'. After increasing the expectations of the movie with the promotions, the makers have finally released the film today on January 14th, 2021. Let's see how far Ram has impressed the audience with his dual role in the movie.

Story:

Siddharth (Ram) is a businessman who owns a construction firm. He is in love with Mahima (Malavika Sharma). One day, a youngster Akash gets murdered and Siddharth becomes the prime accused. But, the cops trace the lookalike of Siddharth who is a thief. Aditya (Ram) gets caught. The cops will have to investigate who is the actual person behind the murder. What did they do? Who did the murder? What is the murder about? Forms the film's story.

Performances:

Ram Pothineni is truly an asset for this film. He has went under the skin of the character and delivered his career-best performance with this film. Despite having two completely different roles, Ram has pulled it off with ease. Malavika Sharma looked beautiful in the film and also delivered an honest performance. Malavika Sharma also gained good marks for her outstanding performance in the film. Vennela Kishore delivered an honest performance. Sathya and Sonia Agarwal delivered decent performances in the film. Nassar good in his role. Posani Krishna Murali acted naturally. The rest of the characters also made their presence felt.

Technical Aspects:

Director Kishore Tirumala hasn't made any major changes to the script of the film. But, he has succeeded in narrating the story without making the audience get bored. The audience can stick to their chairs throughout the film and the credit goes to the director. Production values by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore under the Sri Sravanthi Movies banner are luxurious. Music by Mani Sharma is outstanding. His energetic tunes made it, even more, easier for the audience to connect with the story. The cinematography by Sameer Reddy is wonderful. All his camera angles and visuals are a delight to watch. Editing by Junaid Siddiqui is clean. The runtime is crisp.

Verdict:

RED is the official remake of Tamil film Thadam. The film is an investigative drama that weaves runs around a murder. Ram Pothineni played a dual role in the film and impressed with his performance. However, the film failed to attract the curiosity of the audiences. Compared to the first half, the second half of the film is impressive. The changes that were brought into the current film and the outdated episodes that were designed could not help the film. The film is a big misfire after a successful film like iSmart Shankar. Moreover, the film could have been released on a OTT platform but the makers waited for a theatrical release and there is no change in the result. All in all, Ram's RED is a big disappointment.
