Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga Review: Routine, passable family drama

“Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga”, starring Vaisshnav Tej and Ketika Sharma in the lead roles, looked like a perfect youthful family entertainer with the content seen in the trailer. The film created decent buzz before its release in the last few days because of the promising trailer and entertaining songs. The film has been postponed several times in the past for various reasons and finally hit the screens. Let's see how it fares at box-office.

Story

Rishi(Vaisshnav Tej) and Radha(Ketika Sharma) are friends from childhood. Years passed by and their friendship grew along with their age. Rishi and Radha are neighbours now, and they are both practising medicine. Rishi and Radha love each other, but they act like they really don’t. An unexpected incident leads to a conflict between the two families, and they are separated. The rest of the narrative of the film is how Rishi and Radha express their love for each other, putting their egos aside and then reuniting their families.

Analysis

Gireeshaaya, who previously remade “Arjun Reddy” in Tamil, makes his Telugu debut with “Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga.” It is a simple rom-com with a conflict involving a family feud. It is one of those films where right from the first frame, everything looks predictable. The whole thing screams routine. We know where it’s headed. Such films can only work with extraordinary writing and chemistry between the leads.

Unfortunately, writing, an essential element to make everything come alive, is below par. We move from one scene to another without anything sticking. It makes the whole thing look flat and bland—neither the fun nor the romance interests us anywhere. The songs and freshness in the pair worked to an extent. The film constantly reminds us other films scenes. A minor conflict finally arises in the story around the interval mark. It is alright and makes one hope if anything is exciting coming up ahead.

However, there is no change in the momentum in the second half as well. Things just pick up from where they left. In fact, the lack of focus on the conflict makes one wonder if it were only a distraction for an interval bang. The film has a predictable conclusion that one expects from a rom-com, and especially anyone can imagine with a title like ‘Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga.’

Overall, ‘Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga’ is utterly predictable and formulaic fare that is executed decently in parts. The music and lead pair provide some breather. If you like romcoms and don’t mind sheer routineness, give it a try.

Performances

Vaisshnav Tej’s looks and appearance are very attractive. He tried to recreate his uncle Pawan Kalyan’s body language in a couple of scenes that perfectly suited him. The actor pulled off the emotional scenes very well, even though this is just his third film. He stepped ahead with his performance as Rishi in “Ranga Ranga Vaibavanga.”

Ketika Sharma is a gorgeous match alongside Vaisshnav Tej. She is in top gear in the scenes with the lead actor. Ketika will undoubtedly win the hearts of the young with her elegance and performance on screen. Naveen Chandra, as Ketika Sharma’s brother, gets another weighty and worthwhile role. Once again, he is up to his mark. Satya, as the village sarpanch, delivered hilarious laughs in the film. His scenes with Vaisshnav Tej and Raja Ravindra are a booster to the proceedings in the second half of the film. The rest of the cast, including Naresh, Prabhu, Tulasi, Subbaraju, Rajkumar, and others, are all good.

Technicalities

Gireeshaaya, the director of the film, chose a simple story and presented. The love story and the relationship between two families are perfectly placed one against the other, and the interlink between them plays the key role here. His writing looks fresh in the love scenes. The family scenes, establishing the homely environment between the neighbouring families, are equally dealt with top priority.

Devi Sri Prasad’s tunes are an added advantage to the film. ‘Kothaga Ledhenti’ and the ‘Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga’ title track are the notable songs from the album. The background score is also good, especially in the second half. Cinematography is an appreciable work from the technical point of view. Siri Siri Muvvallona song picturisation in the hill station stands out to be the best work with beautiful visuals and montages. The production values of the film are great. Handling two entire families with a huge number of cast needs to be applauded.
