Bhanumathi And Ramakrishna Review: A Feel Good Movie About Settling Down After Marriage In 30s
They say age is a ticking time bomb for girls who remain unmarried for long. India has an ideal age for marriage too if you didn't know. The concept of marriage is synonymous with settling down. So Srikanth Nagothi's drama Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna goes on to prove the oft-repeated sentence, "Age is just a number."
Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna can be streamed on Aha. The drama is all about how to find love when your age hits the 30s. It also throws light on the mental agony an unmarried girl goes through in India and the way she is taunted by judgemental people around her. That forms the premise of Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna.
So, what's the story of Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna? Salony Luthra plays Bhanumathi, a modern-day practical girl for whom work is worship. Bhanumathi's world comes crashing down after being humiliated and dumped by her boyfriend for a younger girl. Bhanumathi feels let down and the age taunt by her ex makes it worse.
Enter Ramakrishna played by Naveen Chandra in his 30s who not only joins Bhanumathi's company but also her team. The two hit it off. So, what's new in this done to death plot, you ask? Well, for starters there is no exaggeration whatsoever when it comes to the office environment or even the way the lead actors develop feelings for each other. The chemistry isn't a first-sight attraction but rather built over a few hearty conversations. Nagothi has treated the subject well which is what works for the movie. A tenali resident migrating to a city for a job and not being able to converse in a language foreign to him seems relatable to most people from rural India who come to cities in search of greener pastures. Every scene is relatable and for a debutant director, Srikanth Nagothi has done a fantastic job of keeping the audience engrossed.
Both Saloni and Naveen breathe life into their characters which come alive on screen. The subtle reference to marriage as settling down or seeking stability gives one the deja vu feeling.
Verdict: Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna is a feel-good movie worth watching. You are reminded of similar movies like Qarib Qarib Single and Uyyala Jampala because the movie is all about unassuming people desiring basic and most stereotypic things in life and yet living a content life,
