Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali Movie Review: Novel story with some twists
“Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali” is another feel-good romantic drama from Mohana Krishna Indraganti. This is the third time the director has collaborated with the lead actor, Sudheer Babu, to deliver another drama of emotions. The film’s story revolves around the world of cinema. Krithi Shetty is the lead actress in the film. The trailer and the music album of are impressive and creates interest on the film. The film got released in theatres and let's see how it fares at box-office.
Story
Naveen (Sudheer Babu) is one of Tollywood’s top directors who has delivered five consecutive commercial blockbusters. Naveen decides to make his sixth film based on a real-life emotional drama. Naveen then gets to know about Alekhya(Krithi Shetty) and wants her to be the lead in his film. Unfortunately, Alekhya and her family have a very sad past, which doesn’t allow her to complete the film. How Naveen convinces Alekhya and her family and completes his film is the rest of the narrative of the film.
Analysis
Mohanakrishna Indraganti of “Sammohanam” and “V” fame directs “Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali”. He has picked up a set-up similar to “Sammohanam” but has come out with a new story this time around. Without wasting any time, he gets into the crux of things at the start of the movie. He sets up the characters and the world neatly and clearly. One is intrigued by the process as the take-off looks bit different.
However, things stagnate as quickly as a lot of time is wasted in ‘convincing’. One gets it that hurrying through this part would make the whole thing look rushed and impact the second half. The problem here is the writing. It is flat, and the subtle humour doesn’t work as often as it should to hold the interest. It is only towards the pre-interval and interval blocks that some momentum is built.
The drama genuinely interests, and a neat twist does the rest. It makes one curious enough to see what lies ahead. The second half starts on a sombre and dramatic note. The beginning almost depresses, but it is the foundation of the core drama ahead. Again, like the comedy in the first half, the writing works in parts. It fails to leave the desired impact.
The story, out of a novel idea, turns predictable after a point. What still holds attention is the emotions. There are occasional moments that connect. But the patchy writing doesn’t elevate the proceedings. An inconsistency is felt, and that’s where “Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheptha” falters.
Performances
Sudheer Babu is the main asset of the film. He ran the film single-handedly and stole the show entirely. This is the first time Sudheer Babu has played the role of a filmmaker in a film, and he perfectly portrayed it. His actions and body language in the production scenes as the director are very impressive. Sudheer Babu’s appearance changes slightly for this film, with long hair and a thick beard.
Krithi Shetty is a tough competition for Sudheer Babu in terms of acting in the film. She played a dual role in the film, and excelled at both. She justified her role with an exceptional performance, particularly in the emotional scenes. It looks like she played a challenging character at the very beginning of her career. Rahul Ramakrishna, as lead actor’s friend, gets a very supporting role as a screenwriter by profession. He gives a very composed performance. Srikanth Iyengar is a special package for the film. Also, the role will be a great addition to the actor’s career. Vennela Kishore provides a lot of laughs from time to time throughout the film. Srinivas Avasarala is good in his small role.
Technicalities
The story of the film is good. Mohanakrishna Indraganti who is best known for portray emotions, picked up a new story this time. But the first half of the film is dull. Once the flashback is revealed emotion works a bit. Commercial elements are missing in the film. Background music by Vivek Sagar is very good. Songs from the film are okay and the item song is not impressive. Cinematography is good. Production design needs a commendation. Dialogues are fine. Editing andproduction values are decent.
