Today's food consumption industry is all about : Add to cart, Buy now, and Pay now
Food and shopping are correlated terms and both go hand in hand. Today the world is the biggest consumer of food and customer is termed as the king in the consumer industry.
Food and shopping are correlated terms and both go hand in hand. Today the world is the biggest consumer of food and customer is termed as the king in the consumer industry. And this is what every management student or a business man or a food-entrepreneur learns in the marketing subject. Well, that's absolutely true.
Remember the first time you tried visiting your favorite restaurant and tasting your special dish? Earlier, we didn't have the food menu of a particular restaurant in front of our digital screens, a click away. Thanks to the internet world and the evolution of new food apps which changed the perspective of the world by making consumers as sloth bears (Sorry for the humor).
Now let's be feasible about this. The last time I saw my neighbors stepping out of their house is to switch on the motor pump. My friend told that,he'll plan his date in his own house itself, instead of visiting a five-star restaurant which is just half a kilometer from his house. Many stopped wearing watches, just because they have a smartphone to tell the time. Smartphones and the internet has made everyone into machines that we became so depended on themratherthan trusting ourselves.
Few years back this wasn't the case actually. Having a computer or a smartphone and the internet connection is a big achievement. Now, we are having internet in the air (Wifi at almost every railway station in India). We forgot carrying lunch boxes to our office desks.Smartphones, internet and apps have brought the world closer to our hands, reachable and accessible. From eggs to grocery, everything is done through window shopping.
Do you know the number of orders Zomata get in a month? No surprise, it claims to get nearly 38 million orders a month across the cities in India. The food app registered a revenue of $206 million in FY19.
Over the years, the food consuming industry has revamped in an extensive way. We see food trucks trending everywhere. Back then, everyday parents (ultimately the end consumer as well) used to drop their kids at school and hastily rush to the grocery store to pick some consumables for the whole week, whereas today we see a lot of traffic rush sitting in front of the computer waiting to click "Add to cart", "Buy now" and "Pay now" buttons on their digital screens. The world comes running towards you with just a click away. In minutes you'll get your favorite food on the dining table, ready to serve and consume.
However, food is a medium to bring people closer as well. So, try this - Ask your beloved wife to cook something delicious for lunch and get it to your office desk. Sit together and have it. How romantic? Isn't it? Offices should start this kind of culture to encourage the consumption of homemade cooked food.
