Teachers’ Day Special: Jyoti Singh’s Journey of Teaching Yoga and Changing Lives
On Teachers' Day, we interview Jyoti Singh, founder of Sparsh Yog
On Teachers' Day, we interview Jyoti Singh, founder of Sparsh Yog. With advanced degrees in Yog Science and extensive experience, Jyoti has profoundly impacted many lives through yoga. Her approach merges traditional techniques with modern wellness practices to enhance both physical and mental health. Recognized for her achievements in yoga competitions and community outreach, Jyoti Singh’s work at Sparsh Yog exemplifies how teaching can extend into holistic well-being and personal growth.
Q: Jyoti, your journey in yoga has been truly remarkable. Can you share what initially sparked your passion for this ancient practice?
My passion for yoga began with a profound personal experience. I was always drawn to the holistic approach of yoga and how it integrates the mind, body, and spirit. My formal education in yoga, including a Post Graduate Diploma and an MA in Yog Science, only deepened my love for this practice. Yoga became more than just an exercise for me; it became a way of life. This passion motivated me to share its benefits with others.
Q: You have a diverse educational background and have been teaching for over five years. How has your education shaped your approach to yoga instruction?
My educational journey has been instrumental in shaping my approach. The rigorous training I received at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, coupled with certifications from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, provided me with a solid foundation. This knowledge allows me to understand and address the unique needs of each individual. It’s not just about teaching yoga; it’s about teaching it in a way that aligns with modern wellness needs while respecting its traditional roots.
Q: Through Sparsh Yog, you’ve created a unique environment for wellness. Can you describe your mission and how you personalize your approach to yoga?
At Sparsh Yog, my mission is to create a space where individuals can experience transformation, both physically and mentally. I believe in understanding each person’s unique needs and tailoring sessions to suit those needs. By blending traditional yoga techniques with contemporary wellness practices, I strive to help people manage stress, improve their health, and achieve a balanced lifestyle. It’s about more than just yoga; it’s about nurturing a holistic approach to well-being.
Q: You’ve achieved significant milestones in yoga competitions and have also engaged in community work. How do these experiences influence your work at Sparsh Yog?
Participating in yoga championships like the All-India Yoga Sports Championship and the National Patanjali Yoga Cup has been a source of immense personal growth. These experiences have honed my skills and deepened my understanding of yoga. Additionally, organizing yoga camps for the Indian Army on International Yoga Day was a way to give back to the community. These experiences reinforce my commitment to using yoga as a tool for societal well-being and continually inspire my work at Sparsh Yog.
Q: Your influence extends beyond the yoga studio to corporate settings. How do you adapt your teachings for multinational companies?
Working with corporate clients like Vodafone and Max Life Insurance has been an enriching experience. In these settings, I focus on making yoga accessible and relevant to busy professionals. The aim is to provide practical wellness solutions that can be integrated into their daily routines. The core principles of balance, health, and mindfulness remain the same, but the approach is tailored to meet the specific needs of the corporate environment.
Q: As we celebrate Teachers' Day, what message would you like to convey about the role of a teacher in today’s world?
A teacher’s role extends far beyond the confines of a traditional classroom. True teaching is about inspiring and guiding individuals to reach their fullest potential. On this Teachers' Day, I hope to remind everyone that education, in all its forms, can transform lives. It’s about imparting knowledge and fostering personal growth. Whether through yoga or any other field, the essence of teaching is to empower and uplift those we have the privilege to guide.
