Nurse Day is an annual celebration that honors the invaluable contributions of nurses to the healthcare industry. Observed on May 12th, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, this day recognizes the vital role that nurses play in promoting health, preventing disease, and caring for the sick and injured.

Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, providing a wide range of services to patients in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. They work tirelessly to ensure that patients receive the best possible care, and their dedication and compassion have a significant impact on the lives of those they serve.

Nurse Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and sacrifice of nurses, and to express gratitude for the critical role they play in our healthcare system. It is also a chance to raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities facing the nursing profession and to promote the importance of nursing education and training.

One of the main challenges facing the nursing profession is the shortage of nurses in many parts of the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a global shortfall of around 5.9 million nurses, with the greatest shortages in low- and middle-income countries. This shortage is expected to worsen in the coming years, as the demand for healthcare services continues to rise due to population growth, aging, and the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases.

To address this shortage, it is essential to invest in nursing education and training and to provide opportunities for nurses to develop their skills and advance their careers. This includes increasing the number of nursing schools, offering scholarships and other financial incentives to attract more people to the profession, and providing continuing education and professional development opportunities for nurses at all levels.

In addition to addressing the issues and sharing the experience, The Hans India went to know how the journey of a nurse is different from others. A nursing officer, Manoj Tirthani from Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) who is working there for 12 long years had shared his experience and challenges with us.

He explained that when a family came to reach out to the hospital with a serious issue and beg them to save lives are the most difficult challenge they need to face as they had keep aside the pain by looking into their eyes and work efficiently. But in the end when a patient is recovered and the smile on their face is the most motivational thing for them.

He also discussed about the situations when family members of some patients got panic and start behaving violent on them. At those crucial times, they have to give priority to the patients whose conditions are more critical compared to others. As a result, making the members of the family is one of the many difficult tasks they usually face.

He also mentioned the full form of 'NURSE' as Noble-Understanding-Responsibility-Sympathy-Efficient and shared that doing a job which saves lives is one of the bravest jobs and he is truly proud of his role.
