Happy International Nurses Day 2023: An interview with an nursing practioner
- On May 12th every year, International Nurse Day is celebrated. Nursing is one of the noble career to choose.
- This day recognizes the invaluable contributions made in the health care sector and society at large.
Dorothy, is a nurse, she has completed her nursing from Vijay Marie Nursing college almost a decade back. Since her completion of nursing education, she has been working both in India as well as abroad. She feels being nurse is not easy job, it consists of long shifts, tragic situations, difficult co-workers and much more. However is it is considered one of the noblest professions in the world.
How would you handle a difficult patient?
As a nurse, we are trained to difficult patients, we are aware, we could run int varied reactions such defensiveness, anger, feat, demandingness and many other things. So, we keep ourselves calm and composed in difficult and ensure the patients receive best medical care required.
What is your biggest strength?
My biggest strength is good communication skills and more importantly I am caring and compassionate, this is the most important quality a nurse must have.
Why do you want to be a nurse?
Nursing profession is well respected profession and there is huge demand for this profession not only in our nation but world at large. Hence, I chose this profession because I would be serving and I would also be earning my livelihood through this humble profession.
What do you think is the most rewarding aspect of this line of work?
The most rewarding aspect of this line of work is, you can make a difference in other people lives.
Do you think nursing is easiest of the careers to undertake?
No, Nursing might not be definitely the easiest of the careers to undertake, but it can potentially be highly rewarding as well as fulfilling vocation.
