90-yr-old govt primary school cries for prompt attention
Nearly 100 children of coffee estate labourers are its students
Chikkamagaluru: This is a 90-year-old government school which is in dilapidated condition since many years. All the students studying here are children of poor families. So, can it be called a poor school!. The children of labourers studying in this collapsing school are busy playing and learning with their lives in their hands.
On the one hand, the school building is supported by a plastic cover, and if the wind and rain are strong, the hill behind the building may falls on the school itself. On the other hand, There is no connection between the school wall and the compound. So, it can be said that there is no problem in this school, the school itself is in the midst of a problem.
By the way, this is a pathetic picture of Hirebailu Government Senior Primary School in Kalasa Taluk of Chikkamagaluru District. About 90 children are studying. All the students are children of coffee estate labourers. There are not enough teachers to teach. Out of five sanctioned teachers, 5 posts are vacant. A posted teacher is managing two or two schools. This is an adventure for them in a way.
The people here say that this school with a history of nine decades is going to collapse today or tomorrow. They are saying that the current situation of the school, which faces every rainy season, is not guaranteed even for this rainy season. But the school is breathing from the tarpaulin that the parents have built for the future of the children. The officials of the education department are sitting idle by seeing the tarpaulin laid by the parents as if they don’t know anything. In such a case, the question of the locals is what happens and who is responsible if an accident occurs.
It is said that this school has not received any funding for many years. The school is collapsing amid the government’s irresponsibility and heavy rains. Except for the school office, the walls of all the other rooms are cracked. The building, the room, the toilet are all horrible. In this case, there is no need for any other reason to call the condition of children miserable. The plastic sheet that the parents tied to the walls of the school during the last rainy season is standing as a backbone. This year, the walls are looking even more dangerous, the locals say. The people here are expressing their anger against the government and officials who have not repaired the school. The Deputy Commissioner Ramesh, who has woken up, has instructed the DDPI and BEO to immediately inspect the place and repair it. It is the demand of the parents that the government should provide a neat building or repair the school as soon as possible for the children’s school.
