SPMVV to offer dual degree in engineering
The varsity will award BTech degree while Sweden’s BTH would give BS certificate.
Students have to study 3 years in SPMVV and the last year at BTH.
Last date for submitting applications is July 9.
Tirupati: Female students desirous of pursuing education abroad will have an opportunity by joining the unique course offered by Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV). The varsity will award dual degrees in four years in collaboration with Sweden's Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH). The novel feature of this course would be that students have to pursue their education at SPMVV for the first three years and the final year in Sweden which is mandatory. SPMVV will award BTech degree through transfer of credits from BTH. Also, BTH will award Batchelor of Science (BS) degree in concerned branch as per their norms.
BTH, established by Government of Sweden, is considered as modern university with focus on applied Information Technology. It has been ranked at number six in the world in the area of Systems and Software Engineering while SPMVV is accredited with NAAC A grade. SPMVV has signed MoU with BTH, Sweden in August 2016 to establish and encourage mutually beneficial scientific, technological, educational relations for exchange of students, staff, for cooperation in skill development and research programmes.
The selection will be based on the ranks obtained by the candidates in JEE (Mains) / AP EAMCET/ TS EAMCET / Marks in BIE or equivalent. So far, three batches have joined and admission process for the fourth batch has commenced now. Though, the intake was 10 students for each of three branches – ECE, Computer Science and Mechanical, it was learnt that no student was not interested to join in Mechanical stream. The first batch students have completed three years at SPMVV and they have to go to Sweden this year for final year course.
The Associate Dean of International Relations Prof T Tripura Sundari informed that the objective of this programme was to make students expose to the global industrial and research career and to ensure them immediate placements in the job market not only in India, but globally. In addition to the admission and tuition fee for three years at SPMVV, the student has to borne Rs.10 lakhs towards fee, accommodation and living expenses in BTH, Sweden.
"The admitted students will have an option to exit after fourth year or otherwise will have a provision to pursue their master studies within relevant specialisation without an exit", she added. The successfully completed students are eligible to extend their residence permit for six months in order to seek employment or explore the possibilities of starting their own business as per the regulations of the Migration Board. She further revealed that the last date for receipt of application for admission into this course will be July 9 whereas interviews will be held on July 11.
