which should be the national animal - Tiger or Cow ?
The Hans India readers speak out their mind
Tiger is made the national animal for a reason. It has Indian connectivity and the country is home to 70 per cent population of the iconic wild species than any other country. Many countries are looking up to India to bring tigers back to their forests actually. If we talk about Cow, no doubt is considered sacred and worshipped by all of us.
Meghana Musunuri, Educationist, Hyd
Cow as a national animal debate can stir a hornet's nest. Cow, unfortunately, got a religious connotation. Though there is a specific provision for the protection of cows in the Indian Constitution, somehow over the years, it acquired a religious connotation. In a plural country, it is better to keep away from such controversies and it is also not desirable.
Tadakamalla Vivek, Ex-Tspsc Member, Hyd
Today BJP wants to change the National animal, tomorrow there will be another government who will want to change it to something else. There are a lot of things that need to be discussed about. Such unnecessary issues will divert the concentration of the government. Political parties should think about solving peoples issue first.
Kota Devadanam, Retd employee Bhadrachalam
In India majority of the hindus are living here. The people have no objection in replacing Cow with Tiger. All the Hindu people are happy to announce Cow as the national animal. Changing national animal Tiger is the good decision, every Hidhu supports the decision of Indian Government.
R.Ravi Kumar, Purohit, Bhadrachalam
I support "Cow Being Made as National Animal". because in today's scenario cow is humiliated in many ways. It is mostly ill-treated. they are found eating garbage on roads. And it is also treated as symbol of communalism. This image should be wiped off from Indian society. Cow slaughter should be stopped at the first place.
Sumeet Raj , Hyderabad
In India many religious worship cows as god. It has a prominent place in the oldest Vedas. People also associate cow with wealth and joyous earthly life. "The cows have come and brought us good fortune. People even claim that in some places, it is preferable if a calf tags along with the cow during housing ceremony it is believed that prosperity and positivity into the house. So, these ways, cows are very much linked to people with culture and along with other traditions too. So, it would be happy one if Indian Govt declares cow as a National animal.
Madhu Mahadev Sharma, Dharmapuri, Karimnagar
"Apart from the cattle economy's point of view, cows are useful to people in more ways than one. There is a lot of demand for the A2 variety of milk drawn from indigenous breeds and more for their dung and urine due to the presence of therapeutic properties. If it is declared as national animal, slaughtering of cows will come to an end."
Netheti Karunakara Rao, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Visakhapatnam division
"It will be largely beneficial if cow becomes the national animal. With a significant drop in indigenous breeds, there is a dire need to conserve them. Given the impact of chemical farming, natural farming essays an imperative part in boosting food security by enhancing resistance to diseases. For this to become a reality, dung and urine derived from native cows play a crucial role in natural farming."
Natural farmer K. Saraswathi, Visakhapatnam
"Cow has a larger significance in Hindu traditions and embracing it as national animal will add value to our culture and heritage. Despite the existence of laws, slaughtering of cows continues to register. Declaring cow as national animal will eventually help in placing a check on the merciless slaughter of the cattle."
P. Sridevi, Animal activist and animal rescuer, Visakhapatnam
"It's a best way to protect cows. Yes, making cow the National animal would be a good decision. Only then we can protect the animal from slaughters. The government should recognize the importance of cow and make it the national animal. We have number of desi breeds but most of them are in endangered position. If it's made a national animal, it would be protected.
P.Balaji Private school administrator Vizianagaram
We are not seeking to make the Cow as a national animal. Such things will never help them to come out of their woes. It was purely a political demand which should not be taken into consideration in the present circumstances. Cow is no doubt a sacred animal and everyone should worship it. But it does not mean that it must be made a national animal.
K. Sriramachandra Murthy Founder of Govardana Giri Gosamrakshana Trust, Visakhapatnam
Cow has a sacred place in Hindu sanatana dharma. It is as important as our own mother. Even in mythology Cow was given prominence indicating that everyone should worship it along with God. It is time now to make it a national animal which is nothing but respecting the sacred animal.
K Giribabu, Private business
Cow is a symbol of love and innocence and making it a national animal is a great respect for our culture. The Indian mythologies have regarded cow as a testimony of respect and worship. In the development of the country and humanity as well the role of the cow is unimaginable. It is the living god which everyone worships.
P Sambaiah, Private college lecturer
There is an absolute need to declare cow as a National Animal. While certain religious elements are driving to slaughterhouse inhumanly, it would be the permanent solution for protecting the cows if declared cow as national animal. At least all Hindus with unique voice demand, I strongly hope that Prime minister Narendra Modi would certainly win National Animal status to the cow.
M.Pulla Rao. Manager, Honey Process Centre, Chittoor
We appeal to the Centre to declare Gau mata (cow) as national animal in place of tiger. We have already expressed solidarity with the TTD Board Member K Shiva Kumar who is leading the campaign in Telangana. In fact, TTD has decided to donate a cow to each temple in two Telugu States – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There is a lot of significance to the five cow-derivatives in Ayurveda.
DVR Sharma, Archaka Udyoga JAC State Convener, Palakurthy
There is no need of changing the national animal. Although we all respect cows as auspicious, replacing tigers with it could attract a debate. It may trigger unnecessary communal controversy, which is uncalled-for.
B Sambashiva Rao, Retd Lecturer, Hanamkonda
Everyone in this country are directly or indirectly dependant on Cow. The list of benefits is huge and not to forget it is a Sacred Animal. I strongly believe it's high time that Cow must be declared as a National Animal.
Rajeev Jopat, Hyderabad
With Karnataka's BJP government passing stringent Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2020, a cross section of people hope that declaring cow as national animal will aid in preventing slaughtering of the sacred animal and abstain people from consuming beef.
Rani Devalla, Visakhapatnam
Though cow has many uses, it purifies air by given out oxygen. It's waste like gomutra (Cow Urine) and cow dung are super disinfectant, but to avoid political and religious disputes cow should not be declare as National animal.
Bhagyashree Bhikole, MSc in Chemistry
Cow is not political commodity. India is a union of different states with different traditions and customs. Cow should not be a political affair to any political party or person. We must respect Indian customs and traditions. So, It cannot be a National Animal.
