Travails of orphans, through strokes
Deepa Nath, artist and activist, came up with a coffee table book ‘Collective Conscience’ and also is displaying her paintings and sculptures which talk about people’s dynamics and relationships
Hyderabad-based artist Deepa Nath launched a coffee table book 'Collective Conscience' which talks about the problems of under privileged children specially orphans face every day. The book was launched recently by Rajeev Gowda, MP Karnataka and a few senior artists.
Deepa Nath is also a social activist she says, "I am working with ABC NGO for four years. And there was a time when I used to go back home and cry after meeting some children.
I want to tell the world about the pain they feel."
"'Collective Conscience' is an effort to stir our inner conscience to wake up and contribute in whatever way we can to make life a better place for these children," she adds.
About the book Deepa says, "About 20 NGOs got together to research, and it took me one and half year to come up with this book. You can see my experiences and I painted on one side of the page and the other side of the page you can see the content.
In others story I took their photo on one side and the content on the other side, but the content of each NGO is not more than 10 lines."
Talking about the book presentation she says, "I spoke about different NGOs from the different states and these NGOs worked a lot and they got the data for the book.
Although the coffee table book is not for sale and it's an opportunity for everyone to get it for free and to volunteer if they are willing to." "Now only people started approaching me that they want to volunteer," she adds.
Along with the launch of coffee table book she is also displaying her paintings with the same tittle 'Collective Conscience'.
Her work is also are based on people and relationships and her ability to capture human emotions and this can be seen in her work. And the works are an indication of her sensitivity towards underprivileged children.
Altogether this 54-years-old artist is endeavouring to bring out a strong message by depicting the travails undergone by underprivileged children especially orphans and the role society should play to support them.
