Anurita Jha, who shot to fame with her role as Shama Parveen in the film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ in a candid interview talks about her new project ‘Topaz’…
Model-turned-actor Anurita Jha, who made debut in Anurag Kashyap's highly acclaimed film 'Gangs of Wasseypur' will be seen next in 'Topaz', which is currently under production.
The Bihari lass Anurita has been a model for many years now and has walked the ramps for major designers. She has taken part in many fashion shows across the country.
'Topaz' is based on a story by Ruskin Bond and is a mystery/thriller produced by Bani J. The film will be streamed on the web platform Zee5.
"It's a beautiful story that reflects the spirit of the forest and I am very happy and excited that I did it all. Thanks to the director Suman Mukhopadhyay sir to have selected me."
Anurita plays the role of Lachmi in the film. "Lachmi is the protector of the forest. That's the role. It's a great character with an amazing graph. It's high on performance and it was a fantastic experience."
Anurita informs that the film has a steamy scene and initially she was sceptical about doing it.
"I had to do a very bold scene in the film, where I go backless. This is the first time I am doing something like this… in the past I have been offered to do roles which had such scenes, but I had declined.
However, for me, it is imperative that the director is good.
I was really scared to do the shot… the story demanded it and I took it up as a challenge because till date I had donned the roles of a strong woman, emotional, a simple girl, etc. This was something which was a little evil and bold."
The second film that Anurita has been working on is 'Pari and Pinnochio', which were selected in Large Short Films.
'Pari and Pinocchio' captures many issues that girls go in today's world. "In this short film, they have shown how as a child you face certain issues of looking pretty and carry it for a very long time.
So, I definitely want to talk about this and spread awareness in this regard."
Narrating about her journey she says, "My journey has been a total learning ride called life. It's been full of ups and downs.
I couldn't have asked for more. It's been going great and I feel I am just getting started."
Sharing her experience of working in 'Gangs of Wasseypur' she says, "It was fabulous and lovely working with Anurag Kashyap.
I think if it had not been for '…Wasseypur', I would not even take myself seriously as an actor.
That film gave me a responsibility to become and persist becoming a good actor. So, thanks to Kashyap. He has been a mentor and I couldn't have asked for better."
