Dr Sunitha and her team gave the best Mother's Day gift to Covid-19 patient just a day after she was admitted to the hospital for being tested positive.
Braving tough conditions the team of doctors achieved a rare distinction of performing a difficult and risky surgery and have proved that they are second to none in medicare. All is well with the baby boy born to a Corona positive woman who was brought to Gandhi Hospital, Dr Anitha Siddu told The Hans India. Dr Anitha is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Gandhi Hospital, who led the team.
She said it was a challenge for the hospital staff. But thanks to the way they were fully geared to meet any contingency. She recounted that the challenges including organising and taking precautionary measures. "These two months we motivated the team to be able to handle any kind of serious or critical cases.
One of the challenges for us was to handle and consider prevention of infection to others. It is crucial to ensure prevention of spread of Covid-19 as well as keeping the morale and confidence levels high for the team," said Dr Anitha. She said the baby is found negative for Corona test and has been handed over to the mother who would be helped in taking all precautions.
The delivery was a C-section and no chance was taken, blood was arranged in case a need arose. A drill to manage all the things like taking care of the disposables before and after surgery, managing the entire staff including the class-IV employees was done. The woman's mother-in-law contracted Covid after which her husband and then she herself gotinfected.
On the next day of admission itself, the surgery had to be done because of her condition. "Every operation is a challenge. She is placed in a COVID care area round-the-clock. At present she is breast feeding. We would take a call whether to repeat a test for the baby," the doctor added.
