Keep quirky items new

Everybody loves to have novelty items but remember that you have to maintain them all. Keep them dust free. Invest in a small vacuum cleaner that can be handheld and used on delicate items. Check that direct sunlight is not hitting brightly coloured wall hangings or upholstery as they will then look faded. Invest in curtains with liners.

Water your indoor plants so that they do not droop. Do not overwater or the leaves will turn yellow. Every few days, spray water on the larger leaves and rub them with a cloth for them to look healthy and beautiful.

Bathrooms should be wiped dry or the walls and tubs tend to develop mildew. Taps can be cleaned with a solution of baking soda, water and vinegar to keep them gleaming. Avoid clutter next to wooden staircases or on your table under the stairs. Give a quick wipe a few times a week. Check larger statues and quirky pieces for chipped paint. If need be, put a drop of matching nail varnish or paint to cover up the cracks.

Check if your wall hangings, clocks and hanging items are straight or tilted. The effect of unique statement pieces is lost if they are hung askew.
