Healthy and liver-friendly: Be smart and take the steps towards a healthy liver!
Practically everything that goes in your body, both good and bad, makes a stop in the liver.
Practically everything that goes in your body, both good and bad, makes a stop in the liver. When operating at its peak, the liver can filter almost two quarts of blood per minute and easily demolish toxins. Now, you can understand how important a role the liver truly plays in your well-being. However, the liver is also subjected to a lot of abuse. Alcohol, pollution, second-hand smoke, allergens, poor diet and even stress can take their toll on the liver, making it lethargic.
Hence, it is very important to keep the liver squeaky clean and in top working condition.
I am going to give you a list of foods that aid in maintaining a healthy liver.
Curcumin
Curcumin promotes the production of enzymes that detoxify the liver. It promotes flow of bile that cleanses the liver and rejuvenates its cells. Not only does turmeric help keep the liver in peak condition, but it also has the strength to prevent alcohol-induced cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer. Turmeric is added in all Indian foods
Garlic
Let me tell you about the power that Garlic has over liver cleansing. To maintain good liver health, I have observed that if you consume garlic everyday, then your liver will function at optimum levels. The juice of the garlic is so potent and penetrating that it helps dissolve impurities from the liver. Not only is it good for your liver, but your taste buds will absolutely love it!
Lemon
The juice of the lemon contains a powerful antioxidant vitamin C which protects the liver cells that are damaged. I am constantly squeezing lemon on all my food and I encourage you to do so too. It is the best guardian of the liver. The vitamin C present in lemon prevents oxidative damage that is caused by the release of free radicals.
Coriander
I am constantly encouraging people to toss a lot of coriander into their food. The phytochemicals present in this herb are believed to be the best soldiers, especially for cancers fund in the liver. Make sure that the coriander leaves you are buying are fresh, evenly green and with no sign of wilting.
Leafy greens
These little leaves are liver rejuvenators. These wonderful, refreshing, leafy greens, whether it is mint, fenugreek, mustard leaves, amaranth, spinach etc. contain tonnes of phytochemicals boosting liver health. Everyone must reap the goodness that they contain. While buying these greens, make sure they are fresh and wash them carefully before using.
Sleep at the right time
The maximum release of melatonin is 3 hours after sunset and the body must be at rest so that the liver can use the hormone to keep the liver healthy and prevent live diseases. So it's best to sleep at least 2 hours before midnight so that melatonin can do its job right. Positive effects of melatonin on the liver are amazing especially for fatty liver, hepatitis, fibrosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver cirrhosis.
Radish
The radish and its leaves keep the liver squeaky clean. The juice of a radish is one of the best cures for a sluggish or damaged liver. So toss in radish in your foods. Animal products, alcohol, sugar, deep fried foods and reusing oil or ghee are all things that lead to having a damaged liver.
If you want a clean liver, follow these guidelines. Apart from the above, make sure to eat more from the plant kingdom, which includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and pulses. A small quantity of good quality fats from seeds and nuts is also good for a healthy liver.
