Eating cinnamon is perfectly healthy
Don't you think it's ironic that cinnamon-the sweet and spicy favourite- is used as an ingredient in several sugary confections but at the same time it can also help control blood sugar problems? Or maybe, it's just Mother Nature's way of cutting us a break. We'd never know which one it is.
I want you to understand why cinnamon has often been a part of Indian deserts. Indian food combinations were always very nourishing and healing. To balance the spike in sugar levels, the added cinnamon would control the blood sugar levels.
In India we get the true cinnamon, whereas in the US they sell 'Cassia' under the name of Cinnamon. Cassia and cinnamon look and taste very similar, but there is a slight difference in the properties of both.
In the last few years, I have used cinnamon extensively in preventing, reversing and retarding blood sugar levels and other cardiovascular diseases. In pre-diabetics, it works miraculously by completely overcoming elevated sugars. In young girls, very common conditions known as Insulin Resistance Syndrome, cinnamon is used to conquer this syndrome.
I always tell people to incorporate cinnamon into their daily diet, healthy or unhealthy, as carbohydrates are a major part of our diet in the form of fruits, vegetables, legumes, sprouts, pulses, grains in the form of roti, bread, rice etc. I don't advocate cutting out carbohydrates as it would deplete your energy levels and cause a lot of mental as well as physical problems. Thus, cinnamon automatically cuts down the sugar levels.
PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal disorder whose symptoms include menstrual abnormality, extra facial and body hair, acne and weight gain. Cinnamon can ease symptoms by reducing fasting glucose, insulin resistance and blood sugar levels.
Its antioxidant properties helps in cardiovascular diseases bringing a positive effect on the fatty liver as well as the cholesterol and triglycerides levels by lowering the bad cholesterol and triglycerides.
Cinnamon is a standard fragrant used for aromatherapy – and rightfully so. Cinnamon's scent boosts brain function. It has been proven that simply smelling cinnamon regularly boost memory and performance when it comes to daily tasks.
The antibacterial properties of cinnamon are beneficial in preventing water borne diseases such as E. coli and salmonella.
It has shown to prevent blood supply to reach cancerous tumours, automatically preventing their growth.
Cinnamon is unique in the way that it is known to relax muscles and joints. Often, it is used medically to cure arthritic pains.
A humble amount of this spice could offer relief from stomach cramps for women helps in Cinnamon aids in tooth aches prevents bad breath. Cinnamon has been shown to help neurons and improve motor function aiding Alzheimer's or Parkinson's patients . Thus, they can continue their regular routines with far less impediment.
A very important point to note is that only 3 to 6 grams or 1/4th to ½ teaspoons of cinnamon could be consumed on any given day and not any more than that as it will aid in ALL the above diseases in those quantities itself. Start with 3 grams and slowly work your way up to 6 and no more. Larger quantities lead to acidity, heart burn and burn the walls of your stomach.
The positive effects of cinnamon continue even after 20 days without taking cinnamon. This shows us the true power of cinnamon which has existed since the beginning of human history. Physicians, especially in India, use it as a common medical aid, as do I.
