He is a Michelin-star Chef and specialises in cooking the cheapest Michelin starred dish. Chan Hon Meng is the owner of a hawker stall in Singapore. He received a Michelin Star from Michelin Guide Singapore and was also awarded the title of 'The World's First Hawker to be awarded One Michelin Star'. He is recognised across the world for the Cheapest Michelin-starred Meal in the world. Also known popularly known as Liao Fan Hawker Chan, he was recently in Hyderabad at the Singapore Experience Zone by Singapore Tourism Board at Zomaland, GMR Arena in Hyderabad. He served the guests his very popular Soya Sauce Chicken dish, while he shared his journey and the making of his low cost dish.

Journey from School Dropout to becoming a Chef:

My journey began at home when I started to love to cook. As a teenager, when I left school and was in search of work, I got to work under a Hong Kong chef. He taught me how to make soya sauce.

'The Cheapest Michelin-starred Meal in The World'.

In 2009, I started making Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle and worked very hard to understand and learn the recipe for soya sauce chicken rice during my earlier job under the Hong Kong Chef. Later, I started improvising. I began to wake up early in the morning to prepare the sauce for marination and to achieve the signature flavour and tenderness; many hours of manual braising is required in the preparation routine to make the dish right.

I wanted to keep my food as affordable as possible so that anyone, be it rich or poor can eat my food. This is my recipe and I want as many people to try and relish it.

On favourite Singaporean food:

Singapore has a diverse food scene with hawker food being a favourite; schezwan noodles and chilli crab are a couple of very tasty food that you can try.
