Every person is talented in his own way. But very few people are gifted to bring it to the fore and make it big. There are times we want to unwind and reach out to several means to de-stress ourselves. One such easy medium that can provide solace is music. No wonder musicians are worshipped as idols. A person who turns even simple lyrics into a melody is the quality of a true musician. An indisputable legend who catered to this need is none other than playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam who we dearly call as Balu sir or SPB.
The singer has been ruling the roost in South Indian cinema from mid sixties till date. And those who have interacted with him and seen him closely can vouch for a fact that SPB is not only a versatile singer but also is a fine human being. Whoever meets him can't stop talking about what a down to earth celebrity he is.
The singer with his several renditions across genres has left an indelible mark in the minds of music lovers. The best thing about Balu is that he has his own technique and style of rendition which sets him apart from the others. Right from his classical renditions in the popular Telugu movie Shankarabharanam to singing romantic numbers for Salman Khan, SPB has sung a variety of songs. We have also been witness to the compassion and respect he shows towards BGM instrument players on a public platform during any music concert.
Musical shows like Paadutha the yoga, in Telugu, ed thumb haaduvenu in Kannada and several others on Tamil and Malayalam television have earned him huge praises.
Balu is an ardent fan of the legendary Hindi singer MD Rafi and never spares a chance to remember him during any interview. He always refers to him as an inspirational idol and attributes his success to the inspiration he drew from the great singer. But do you know which song is his favourite among those sung by Rafi? In an interview, SPB sung a song rendered by Md Rafi in the Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore movie Kashmiri ki Kali. The song we are referring to is Deewana Hua Badal.
SPB also speaks about the moral responsibility of common citizens on TV channels. He encourages young and upcoming talent by giving them tips on singing techniques.
Even big film stars insisting on having songs sung by SPB in their movies that to glorify their stature on the big screen is not unheard of. SPB's ability to effortlessly bring out any sort of emotion in his songs is well known. It has happened on several occasions that his rendition of a song makes the audience literally break down. We have seen fans getting emotional while watching his concert. Such is the power of his melodious voice. The voice that has never faded in any way has been entertaining the masses for decades now and that explains his huge fan base across the world.
Here's wishing the living legend a very happy birthday.
