Padmini (1932-2006), the second-born among the three girls known as ' Travancore Sisters' went on to leave an indelible mark on southern cinema till she was active, 30 years and more in the industry. Her portfolio of films included those with N T Rama Rao, Rajkumar, Prem Nazir in the other languages of south India. In Tamil, her pairing with Sivaji Ganesan and MGR brought in hordes of people to watch the films.
In Hindi, Raj Kapoor fans would remember her for her performance in 'Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai', the film in which his cinematographer, Radhu Karmakar, donned the role of a director and the film turned out to be a major hit in 1960. With an illustrious career thus, Padmini will be evergreen in the minds of her fans on her 88th birth anniversary today.
