National award winning Kannada director Girish Kasaravalli is likely to add one more feather to his cap.
National award winning Kannada director Girish Kasaravalli is likely to add one more feather to his cap. The director, who made a comeback to his profession after a long hiatus of about eight years, has completed his movie "Illiralaare Allige hogalaare". This movie which has already been exhibited at several film festivals has now been selected for two prestigious international film festivals.
Earlier, the writer had directed a movie titled 'Koormaavathaara" in 2021. This movie will represent India in Asian film festival at Dhaka on January 16, 2021. Also, this movie will be exhibited in the competitive section of Asiatica film festival in Rome, we hear.
The movie "Illiralaare Allige hogalaare" is based on the story "Haalina Meese" written by lyricist Jayant Kaaykini. A character in this story is developed and adapted to suit the contemporary real societal duality. The title "Illiralaare Allige hogalaare" is taken from a line from the song of a great Saint Purandara dasa. Today's life journey is about seeking comforts. But will it lead to peace? This anxiety is expressed by the Saint in this song. This forms the main theme of the movie.
A character by name Nagaraja in the movie dreams of shifting to a new place as he feels that the village in which he lives is detrimental to his progress. When he grows up, he reaches the city and becomes a family man. As he turns successful in life, the luxurious life transforms him into totally a different person. According to the director, this is the essence of the story. Did the pain he suffer during his childhood due to humiliations condition his mind? Or did he become sensitive?
The story runs in two time periods. The dreams woven during 60s, and the apprehensions in the new age forms the mindset of the lead character. As the time changes, there will be environmental changes. While the village environment unfolds the childhood life of Nagaraja, Bangalore will be the place where he settles down in his life.
Though the time and place can change, a man's search continues. Now what is that Nagaraj is searching? Village and City. Life in a beautiful Nature's environment. Mechanical lifestyle in city. A dependent life, and self reliant life. Where is life taking us under such dual conditions forms the crux of the movie, says the director.
