The highly anticipated spy action-thriller "Agent" had a disappointing opening, with an estimated worldwide gross of only Rs 7 crores on its first day. This is a significant setback for the producers, who had already sold the entire Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region rights months ago and are now facing a financial deficit due to over budgeting. The movie was made on a budget of almost Rs 80 crore, and the poor opening day collections have raised concerns about the film's ability to recover its costs. The coming weekend will be crucial for "Agent" to determine if the film can sustain the box office test.
Despite its star-studded cast, including Akhil Akkineni, Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, and Vikramjeet Virk, the movie failed to attract a significant audience. The lackluster performance was not only limited to India but also to the USA premieres and day one collections, which were disappointing, with estimated figures of $150K. Based on the current trend, "Agent" is on track to suffer a 70% loss in the USA territory.
Surender Reddy, the film's director, and Vakkantham Vamsi, the writer, had created high expectations with their previous blockbuster hits like "Dhruva" and "Temper." However, "Agent" failed to meet those expectations, leaving fans and critics disappointed.
The movie's plot centers around Akhil Akkineni, who portrays a spy on a mission to protect the country from a deadly terrorist attack. Although the film's trailer promised high-octane action sequences, the film failed to deliver on that promise.
Overall, the poor opening day collections of "Agent" have set the alarm bells ringing for the producers and the film's cast and crew. It remains to be seen if the film can recover from this setback and prove to be a hit at the box office.
